Last week was interesting . . . okay maybe that is a little too positive; it wasn't really that enjoyable. Warning . . . this may be more detail than you want to know, but to understand our plight.
Monday night:
Jason and Ezekiel got home after FAITH and Ezekiel was acting a little funny. He wanted me to hold him, but I was in the middle of nursing Evelyn. Ezekiel said, "Ev-lyn down, Ev-lyn down". I told him he would need to wait. When I got to a point Evelyn needed a break I laid her on her boppy on the floor next to me and told Ezekiel he could come sit with me for a minute. Jason said he was sort of acting like the last time he had gotten sick (this should have been a big clue). He was sitting in my lap facing me when he said his back hurt, next thing I know he is throwing up all over the front of me. Jason hurriedly comes to us and is going to pick up Ezekiel. I tell him, just wait a minute and not two seconds later he throws up again. (I'm already wearing it - better not to make a bigger mess) I wait a minute and then tell Jason to quickly take him to the bathtub. Jason takes Ezekiel and I grab the trash can (I don't do well with puke). I then proceed to the tub with Ezekiel and tell him, "we are going to be silly and take a shower with our clothes on". We shower off and Ezekiel asks for a "warm bath" so I ask Jason to draw us a bath in our tub. Ezekiel is acting like he feels so much better and we enjoy a bath for about a half an hour.
Jason get Ezekiel diapered and into PJs and I get my PJs on and return to Evelyn's room to change her diaper. Ezekiel comes in to say goodnight so I sit down and he comes and sits in my lap, tells me his back hurts, and proceeds to throw up on me again. This time I don't catch it all and I can hear it dripping onto the floor. Jason takes him to get him cleaned up and I return to the shower (and lose my supper again). (Jason cleans up - thanks!)
Tuesday:
Ezekiel is better but wants to be held and cuddled. He is having some diarrhea, but otherwise seems fine.
Wednesday:
Ezekiel is all better. In the afternoon, Granddad comes to visit. Around 5pm Mom (me) starts to not feel so great. I have to go the bathroom and have diarrhea and stomach cramps. Jason comes home I tell him, "hi, suppers ready, I'm going upstairs". I lay down. I get a little nap and then get up to feed Evelyn. Jason and Granddad leave to take some things to Goodwill and I tell them Ezekiel will be fine with me for the 2o minutes they will be gone. I have to stop nursing Evelyn to go the bathroom and Ezekiel follows. I tell him to go check on Evelyn in her crib and as I hear him say, "Hi Evelyn" I take full advantage of the bucket I took in with me.
When they get back and I finish nursing Evelyn, I go back to bed. When I wake up I hurry to the bathroom and throw up at least one more time.
When Jason comes to bed I am feeling better.
Thursday:
2 am Evelyn wakes up hungry. I nurse her, change her diaper, and in the middle of changing her have to use the bucket (good thing I left it there just in case). That was the last episode of losing my food. (Good thing - Lost about 4 lbs between Monday and Thursday)
It is nice to have Granddad still here for a while so he can play with Ezekiel. He goes home when Ezekiel goes down for a nap. (Hopefully we didn't share this bug)
Friday:
1:30 am Ezekiel is crying and doesn't stop after a few minutes, so I go in to check on him. He is fine I think he is just annoyed with congestion. So I tell him goodnight and proceed to Evelyn. She was starting to stir and it should be about time for her to eat. I unwrap her and her hands are burning up. I take her temperature with the forehead thermometer and she is 100.4 degrees. We had just had a guest speaker at our MOPS meeting who was a nurse and gave us the guidelines for when to do what. I ran down stairs and got out my notes . . . 3 months old and over 100 degrees call the doctor. The pediatrician had told us any time they have a fever go ahead and give them Tylenol and then call, so I gave Evelyn the proper dose and call the after hours number. They asked me to take her temperature under her arm and I got 101. The nurse said she needed to be seen at the ER.
SO here it is 2 am and I'm waking up Jason (which isn't easy) to tell him Ezekiel's upset and I have to take Evelyn to the ER. Oh, and what hospital should I take her to.
To make my story a little shorter (sorry). . .
We go to the ER, they take two chest X-rays and get a urine sample to rule out infections . . .
They don't find anything so they assume she has caught a virus and send us home . . . we get home just before 7am.
I nurse Evelyn and I hear Jason wake up and come down the hall. He checks on us and then we all go back to bed.
7:30 Ezekiel wakes up. I go to move and Jason says he'll get him and that he is staying home (what a great husband)
Now you might wonder why/how I could title this post as "God is Good!". Well . . . .
1. Jason was home to help and clean up on Monday night
2. Granddad was here visiting and could help and entertain Ezekiel
3. Evelyn only had a fever and didn't even mind the catheter at all (she didn't throw up or have some worse condition)
4. Jason was able to stay home (missed a work outing of bowling and eating at Outback)
So even though we had quite the week - God had things laid out to help. Praise God!
